Background

Many people work out regularly but struggle to stay consistent due to rigid plans, lack of flexibility, or unclear progress. Men often prefer structured routines and data, while women value variety and clear movement guidance. Most fitness apps don’t balance flexibility, tracking, and instruction well.

Our goal

The goal was to create a flexible workout system that lets users easily plan and adjust routines on the go, with clear movement instructions and muscle group visuals to reduce guesswork. Progress is tracked through intuitive data visualizations to help users stay motivated and see their results over time.

Users need a flexible way to plan and adjust their workouts.

“Half the time I just show up at the gym and wing it—especially when the equipment I want is taken.”

Exercises should come with clear instructions and muscle targeting info.

“I honestly have no clue what muscles some of these moves are supposed to hit. I feel like I’m just going through the motions.”

Progress needs to be visual and tangible to keep users motivated.

“I’ve been working out for weeks, but I can’t really tell if I’m making any progress. It’s hard to stay motivated like that.”

Empowering users to start smarter: home & daily workout flow

Objective
Design a flexible and intuitive home interface and workout planning flow that helps users quickly review past performance, start new sessions effortlessly, and customize their workout plans with clear guidance and confidence.
Background
Many fitness apps fall short because they enforce rigid workout structures that don’t adapt to real-life gym scenarios. Users also struggle with limited visibility into their long-term progress, making it hard to stay motivated. Additionally, a lack of clear muscle group targeting leaves users unsure if they’re training effectively.

Design Approach

Homepage

  • Summarize monthly workout data at a glance (e.g., hours, sets, total lifted weight).
  • Encourage users to start their next session with one tap.
  • Offer fast access to essential features: workout plan, custom exercises.

Workout planning flow

  • Let users build or adjust their daily workout plan on the go.
  • Provide clarity on each movement, including reps, sets, weight, and rest.
  • Make tracking previous performance and progress seamless.

Flexible training mode for smarter workout tracking

Objective
Help users stay focused during workouts, log each set with ease, and feel motivated by clear, visual feedback after every session.

  • Swipeable exercise tracker: Lets users adapt plans in real time without breaking flow.
  • Visual muscle focus mapping: Helps users understand the “why” behind each movement.
  • Session summary + monthly data: Keeps progress transparent and motivating.

This design not only simplifies in-session actions, but strengthens habit formation by connecting effort with visible results — a key factor in user retention.
